GIS for Rivne Nuclear Power Plant

Creating of GIS of Rivne. Nuclear Power Plant was finished in 2013 for its further development for the purpose of unitary digital topographical base on a territory of industrial complex RNPP conducting and providing informational needs of subdivisions on the base of modern geoinformational technologies.

The system is server-oriented, that is all the software is being installed on the common server, and users have an access to it by means of a web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera or Firefox). Such a structure of a system guarantees an unlimited workplaces quantity and doesn’t make demands to a software and a hardware of a user’s computer.
All data is kept in the database on the server.

The system provides an integration with other informational and geoinformational systems, that is there is a possibility to connect system data to the medium Quantum GIS, AutoCad, MapInfo, ArcGIS, QGIS and other. Between data from other software there provided import/export of data, and also their synchronization. As a reference to work with a database geoinformational system Quantum GIS was chosen.

GIS of RNPP software is constructed by a logical architecture “client-server” as a part of database and programmed applications server and "light client" on a base of DHTML conception. The programme is  elaborated in Linux/Windows operating system with usage of the following programming languages: Javascript, PHP, C++, HTML, CSS, AJAX, JQUERY. To manage geospatial data on a client part in a web-medium SVG language is being used. 
Server of a database is realized in a management system object-relational database (DBMS) PostgreSQL, which is elaborated in University of California, Berkeley (USA) and it is easily accessible on the Internet, including statement texts of programmes and documentation. To manage geospatial data on the server, there used a standard expansion module PostgreSQL DBMS – Postgis. 

Clients components functionate in the medium of a standard web browser Chrome 1.0, Mozilla 1.0, Opera 9.0, MS Internet Explorer 9.0 and are loaded from the server at the beginning of a session as a usual HTML-page with minimal amount of informational resources, necessary to support a graphical interface of user’s interaction with a programme. 
Such a logical GIS of RNPP client-server architecture admits scaling and different types of of concrete programmed-technical complexes physical realization.

To basic physical realizations of a logical “client-server architecture” GIS of RNPP it is possible to include:

  • ”autonomous GIS of RNPP” with placing of all server and client components on one computer (one user mode);
  • ”local GIS of RNPP” with placing of a server part (database and programmed applications) on a server computer of a local area network, where several client’s personal computers with regulated access to GIS of RNPP server in a local network;
  • ”corporate GIS of RNPP” with placing of a server part on a web server and a set of client’s personal computers with regulated access to GIS of RNPP server in Internet/Intranet network. 

Logical and functional structure of GIS of RNPP realization is specified by modern technologies of elaboration and functioning medium of programmed means with ”client-server” architecture. 
The system is constructed by DHTML conception. It considers HTML-document as an object structure, it uses a combination of a statical language of HTML marking, built-in script language JavaScript (scenarios are carried out on a client’s side), CSS (cascade tables of styles) and DOM (object model of a document).
