Presentation of the geoinformation system "Virtual necropolis of Ukrainian emigration"

On November 24 at 15:30 a presentation of the geographic information system "Virtual necropolis of Ukrainian emigration" took place. The presentation was organized in coopertaion of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory and was broadcasted on the website and YouTube channel of Ukrinform.


The presentation was attended by Oleksandr Tkachenko - Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine; Anton Drobovych - Chairman of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory; Larysa Dir - Head of the Department for Foreign Ukrainianship and Humanitarian Cooperation; Pavlo Podobied - project coordinator, head of the department of accounting and preservation of memorial sites of UINM; Roman Zinenko - a representative of the SOFTPRO, the developers, and Andriy Kovaliov - a representative of the Charitable Foundation "Heroica";

The main purpose of the geographic information system "Virtual necropolis of Ukrainian emigration" - the collection, synthesis and dissemination of information about the burials of Ukrainians that are located in other countries and continents.

According to the project coordinator, head of the department of accounting and preservation of UINP memorials, Pavel Podobied, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory wanted to create a unique product: “... through which Ukraine, as a state, and organizations of foreign Ukrainians can effectively carry out interaction and work on search, accounting and preservation of burials of Ukrainians abroad ”. To date, 2,641 burials have been entered into the base on the territory of 284 cemeteries, but this is only the beginning.
